"I cannot say enough good things about Blake Ettestad and his team at State Farm. We originally switched from USAA, who had been great to us for years, but working with a truly local agent has been an entirely different level of service. Blake and his team took the time to work closely with our family, especially helping our teenage kids get insured at rates that were better than anything else we could find. They are proactive in ways most insurance companies simply are not. When our rates dropped after tickets and accidents fell off our records, they actually reached out and let us know. That kind of attention and honesty is rare in the insurance world. I’d also like to give a special thank you to Julie, who has been incredibly helpful from the beginning. She has always been quick to respond, patient with questions, and genuinely cares about making sure everything is taken care of the right way. What stands out the most is how responsive and kind the entire office is. When you call, someone answers the phone. If you leave a message, they get back to you quickly. "My husband and I have been with State Farm for almost 40 years and have stayed with our then local agent in John Day, OR. After almost 30 years of living in Sisters we thought it would be smart to have a local agent. We are so glad that we have made the switch and extra glad that we listened to our friends recommendation to choose Blake and his team. They felt like family even on the very first phone call. Our first in-person meeting was even better. Blake and his staff are 100% in tune with us and our needs. "Blake is a horrible insurance agent and has no idea what he is doing. Due to a hail storm that went through Central Oregon in 2021, my roof was damaged and had to be replaced. At that time, I also had a small water leak that damaged some wood flooring which I was going to pay out of pocket to repair due to concern of raising my rates but Blake highly encourage that I submit that as claim as well but to just wait a bit of time between submissions. The roof repair and claim took a year to finalize and close, and then I waited until February of 2025 to submit a claim on the water damage. Before submitting, I called Blake up again and specifically asked if this would raise my rates and he said it would be no problem. Three days after closing the water damage claim, Blake calls me up to tell me that State Farm is dropping my home coverage to which he replied, "Sorry, and good luck". Every insurance agent I have now spoken with, including other State Farm agents, are shocked that he recommend the second claim. He apparently has no idea what he is doing. Part 2 (Response) - Telling me whether or not damage to may house is covered or not is one thing, recommending that I submit a claim after I express concerns of raising my rates let alone dropping my coverage entirely is a whole different story. I only submitted a claim because you said to at two different occasions. Not much of a benefit to being dropped by your insurance is there? Every other decent agent I have now spoken with would have explicitly recommended not to submit the water damage claim as they said they would have worried that I would have a rate increase or dropped. You may not be part of the underwriting decisions, but if you knew what you were doing as an agent, you would have recommended against submitting a second claim like all other agents would have. Yes, it is the right of the customer to submit a claim or not, but we look for guidance from an agent who is supposed to help you out and be on your side at the time of an accident, not provide horrible advice that leads to a costly outcome."

"I'm sorry that you feel like we failed you, David. You have been a good customer. My encouragement that you describe was only looking at whether or not a claim is likely covered and over the deductible to the point that you would see a benefit. You have the right to use your policy benefits for covered losses and I legally can't dissuade from doing that. Every customer makes the decision to file a claim on their own based on their financial situation. Some of the narrative you are sharing is different in my memory. Multiple claims against most kinds of policies usually effect rate and renewability. I'm not a part of those underwriting decisions but I'm happy to discuss further."
